The newly-formed line of Ben Brar, Ben Poisson and Ethan de Jong certainly had a night to remember on Saturday night as the Prince George Spruce Kings coasted to a 7-1 win over the Coquitlam Express.
After an opening period goal from Patrick Cozzi to make it 1-0 after 20 minutes, the trio kicked it into another gear as they lit the lamp four times in the second period.
Poisson led the way with his 13th and 14th of the BCHL season while de Jong and Brar added singles followed by another goal by Blake Hayward who exacted some revenge on his ex-Coquitlam teammates.
“It’s been a couple weeks now since we have been together, ever since that first game we saw something special there and hopefully we can continue to do that,” says de Jong.
It’s been a dream season up to this point for Poisson who has seen a quantum leap offensively in his sophomore campaign.
After posting 12 goals and four assists as a rookie, the 18-year-old has recorded 14 goals and 14 assists so far this season, good enough to be in the top 15 in BCHL scoring.
Poisson says he’s not shocked by the recent offensive surge from his line, which is part in parcel to some past chemistry.
“I have played with Ethan for a long time now and as I soon as I got moved to centre we kind of just mixed and matched until we found something right and we are all good buddy’s off the ice and I think that helps for sure.”
“Ben (Brar) is a goal scorer that is big and can move the puck well and works hard, which really helps us for sure.”
Prince George improves to 14-10-2-3 in the Mainland Division just six points back of the Langley Rivermen for top spot.
Evan DeBrouwer made 22 saves in net for the Spruce Kings who continue their eight-game home stand next Friday and Saturday against the Victoria Grizzlies and Salmon Arm Silverbacks from the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.
