Spruce Kings extend Mainland Division lead after huge win in Chilliwack

The Chilliwack Chiefs have probably seen enough of the Prince George Spruce Kings.

Once again, the BCHL’s most northern team picked up their fourth win against the RBC Cup hosts following a 5-1 win on Sunday.

The big guns of the Spruce Kings continued their scoring touch in the first period as Ben Poisson and Ben Brar scored within a five minute span to jump on Chiefs goaltender Mathieu Caron who was pulled after giving up two goals on his first four shots.

Chilliwack battled back later in the period thanks to an unassisted goal by Anthony Vincent who beat Evan DeBrouwer making it a 2-1 game after the opening period.

After a scoreless second, the contest turned into the Dustin Manz show who took over the game by potting a natural hat-trick against Daniel Chernard who entered the Chiefs net in relief of Caron.

DeBrouwer collected another victory in goal after blocking out 31 Chief shots.

Prince George improves their record to 25-15-4-4 opening up a three point lead on the Surrey Eagles for the top spot in the Mainland Division.

Both teams will exchange pleasantries once again on Friday and Saturday at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena at 7pm.

It kicks of a six game home stand that will conclude on February 14th against the Trail Smoke Eaters.
