Spruce Kings edge Powell River 5-4, take stranglehold of series

The Prince George Spruce Kings escaped a road scare in Powell River.

Even though the hosts went four-for-seven on the power-play, the visitors found a way to edge Powell River 5-4 in game four of their best-of-seven Coastal Conference Championship series.

The Spruce Kings enjoyed a solid first period jumping out to a 2-0 lead courtesy of Blake Hayward and Nolan Welsh beating Mateo Paler-Chow.

However, the advantage would be short-lived after a pair of infractions by Nick Bochen and Dylan Anhorn early in the second led to Carmine Buono and Neal Samanski power-play goals.

Powell River then took their only lead of the night as Ben Berard found beat Evan DeBrouwer making it 3-2.

The Spruce Kings stormed right back though as Welsh potted his second of the game and Layton Ahac scored 43 seconds apart to re-claim the one-goal lead.

Both teams traded goals in the third courtesy of Dustin Manz and Kevin Obssuth.

Powell River outshot the Spruce Kings 37-26.

The Spruce Kings lead the series 3-1 with game five set for Thursday at 7 PM from the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.

Tickets remain on sale from now until game day at the Spruce Kings office.

If you can’t make it out, you can listen to Brendan Pawliw on 93.1 CFIS FM who will have the game five play-by-play.
