Alex Murray picked up BCHL Player of the Week honours

With appearances in three straight games this past weekend, Alex Murray earned the Player of the Week honours from the BCHL. The Spruce Kings took home 5 of a possible 6 points with two wins and a double overtime tie in the final road trip of the season.

On the first night, Murray and the Spruce Kings earned a 3-2 win over the Coquitlam Express in a first round playoff preview. On the second night the twenty year old goaltender came into the game mid way through the first period and helped the Spruce Kings erase a three goal deficit and go on to post a 5-4 double overtime win. Murray then backed that performance up with a 3-3 double overtime tie against the top team in the Mainland Division.

In all Alex Murray played a total of 182 minutes and 38 seconds allowing just six goals against to post a 1.97 GAA and 0.936 save percentage. Along with the stellar numbers, Murray was in consideration for stars each night and ended up with a first star and two second stars on the Spruce Kings broadcast.

This is the first Player of the Week honour for Alex Murray this season; although he was named as an honourable a couple of times through the year. Murray becomes the fourth Spruce Kings player to earn the POW this season along with Karan Toor (September 30), Chad Staley (November 12) and Justin Rai (January 13).

Alex Murray and the Spruce Kings will be back in action again this week in a double header set against the Langley Rivermen. The two top seeded teams in the Mainland Division have played each other close with each team picking up three wins and most recently the tie in Langley on Sunday night. Thursday and Friday’s games are 7pm starts in the Prince George Coliseum.
