The Prince George Spruce Kings are pleased to announce the acquisition of 18 year old defenseman Trent Huitema from the Surrey Eagles in exchange for future considerations.

The 6’7” 200 pound Huitema calls Chilliwack home and was in his second season with the Eagles. Last season in 46 games Huitema registered 7 points on 7 assists to go along with 48 penalty minutes. This season Trent began the season with the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League where he scored one goal and had one point in 6 games before rejoining the Eagles earlier this month.

“Trent is a big, strong player that has good mobility for his size. When the opportunity to acquire Trent presented itself I jumped at it knowing that he will be a good player for us this year but also looking at next season, he fills a need for another defenseman in that ’98 born age group within our depth chart.  You jump at the chance any time you can add a good defenseman with size to your lineup who will be a good contributor for the next few seasons” said Spruce Kings General Manager Mike Hawes.

To make room on the 22 man roster for Huitema the Spruce Kings have released 19 year old defenseman Cooper Prechel. The Spruce Kings would like to thank Cooper Prechel for his contributions to the organization and wish him nothing but success moving forward.
