LeBrun and Basilico Traded to West Kelowna

The Prince George Spruce Kings would like to announce that they have traded 20 year olds Jake LeBrun, and Bryan Basilico to the West Kelowna Warriors in exchange for 18 year old forward Tanner Campbell, and future considerations.

“It’s an exciting day but also a tough day at the same time. It’s always difficult any time you trade away two great young men like Jake LeBrun and Bryan Basilico. Jake has played for the Spruce Kings for four seasons and has been associated with the team going back ten years when he was the stick boy. He epitomizes what it means to be a Spruce King and it was a pleasure having him as a member of our team. This opportunity in West Kelowna will give Jake an opportunity to recover from his collarbone injury and get into some meaningful games down the stretch and into the playoffs. Bryan is a great young man and it was a pleasure having him with us. He worked hard everyday and did all he could for us to be successful. This opportunity for him in West Kelowna will allow him to continue to develop and prepare for next season at Lake Superior State,” said Prince George Spruce Kings General Manager Mike Hawes.

In his fourth full season with the Spruce Kings, Prince George native Jake LeBrun was named the team captain. Despite sitting out since mid-November with a collarbone injury, LeBrun still remained 6th in team scoring with 14 points, and tied for the lead in power play goals along with Adam Brubacher at seven. In the seven games before his injury, LeBrun had eight points, with four of those goals on the man advantage. Over the course of 183 games with the team, LeBrun has 114 points between the regular season and playoffs. Last March, LeBrun was one of the driving forces that saw the Spruce Kings move onto the second round of the playoffs for just the second time in ten years by defeating the Langley Rivermen.

Macomb, Michigan native Bryan Basilico was in his first year with the Spruce Kings, after being acquired early into the season from the Trail Smoke Eaters. He was tied for third in team scoring this year with 23 points in 33 games, and was third in power play goals with three. In two season’s with Trail, the power forward had 66 points over the course of two seasons. Basilico scored the first shorthanded goal for the Spruce Kings this year against the Victoria Grizzlies back in November, and was one of the team’s best penalty killers.

Tanner Campbell

Last year was Tanner Campbell’s first full season in the BCHL where he scored 14 points in 31 games, and then added three points in five playoff games against the Penticton Vees. The Kelowna native has picked up right where he left off, scoring 14 points this year over the course of 28 games. In his first nine games he had one point, but has since bumped his play scoring 13 points in his last 19 games. “Tanner Campbell is a very talented young forward with great offensive instincts. He put up tremendous numbers in his last year of major midget hockey and will be given every opportunity with our group to achieve similar success. We look forward to adding Tanner to our lineup,” said Mike Hawes.
