Gerry Fitzgerald, one third of the Fitzgerald triplets, set himself apart from his brothers, the rest of the Spruce Kings and the BCHL this past weekend with a three game outing that earned him the BCHL Player of the Week honours. Gerry had a five point weekend including two game winning goals, an assist on the third game winner and scored another beauty of his own on the powerplay all while earning two 1st star selections.

The performance from Gerry capped off a best ever road weekend for the Spruce Kings who swept their three games and put the team in second place in the Interior Division. Gerry was named the game’s first star in both halves of the double-header in Trail and was a big contributor to the team’s 8-2 win in Salmon Arm Sunday afternoon.

"Gerry is a player that comes to play every game," said Spruce Kings General Manager, Mike Hawes. "He loves the game of hockey and loves being around the rink. He is very deserving of the POW."

"Gerry and his brothers have been terrific all season," added Hawes. "They (the Fitzgerald triplets) are a hard line to play against. It's nice to see one of them being rewarded for all of their hard work."

With help from his brothers, Gerry's weekend run on the scoresheet started at 47 seconds of the second period when he converted on a play setup by Leo and Myles Fitzgerald. That goal scored early in the middle frame would hold up as the game winner and his play throughout the contest stood up as the best on the ice earning first star recognition.

One night later it was Gerry that answered the call with his team down 1-0 to tie the game at 9:00 of the first period. After his brother Myles gave the Spruce Kings the lead, Gerry added some extra cushion with his second in the opening period at 17:49. Again capping off the Spruce Kings win was the recognition of being named first star in the 4-2 victory.

The following day in Salmon Arm it was Gerry Fitzgerald's powerplay goal that put the game out of reach for the Silverbacks. The play was setup by his brothers with Myles leading the rush and getting the puck to Leo. The play allowed Gerry to come down the middle with the defenders parting ways and allowing for a perfect saucer pass that Gerry picked up in the deep slot and buried on the Silverbacks netminder.

It was Gerry that had setup his brothers earlier in the game when Leo made it a 3-1 contest at 17:11 of the first period. That goal proved to be the game winner in the third game in as many days for the Spruce Kings. The five points for Gerry were all key in the Spruce Kings first ever three game weekend road sweep in their BCHL history.

Gerry Fitzgerald earned this week's Player of the Week honours among some strong candidates in the BCHL. The Spruce Kings will get another chance to earn a Player of the Week nomination this weekend when they host the Chilliwack Chiefs on Friday night and the Nanaimo Clippers on Saturday.
