FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRINCE GEORGE, BC – The Prince George Spruce Kings of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) would like to invite everyone to wear pink on Saturday night when the team recognizes Breast Cancer Awareness month. On October 27th the players will be wearing pink in their uniforms as part of the "One Thing" they can do to help promote breast cancer awareness with the local Health Promotion Coordinators and volunteers from the Canadian Cancer Society.

Breast cancer accounts for 25% of all cancer in women and affects everyone whether it is a friend, sister, mother or grandmother. The message on Saturday is about awareness and prevention of cancer through choices and the "one thing" you can do to minimize your risk.

"There are many things that we can all do to bring awareness to this disease," said Spruce Kings Communications Director, Ron Gallo. "Wearing pink and drawing attention to breast cancer is part of the “My One Thing” that the Spruce Kings are doing this weekend. Since the beginning of the season, the players have been identifying their one thing and working at reducing their risk of cancer."

Katy Luedtke will be the guest of honour on Saturday night. A seven-year breast cancer survivor and step mom of current Spruce Kings player Jeremiah Luedtke, Katy has been actively involved at raising awareness and funds for cancer research. She has been instrumental in generating over $650,000 in donations along with a team of breast cancer survivors since being diagnosed with breast cancer.
