The Prince George Spruce Kings regret to announce the passing of one of their own. Mike Maddigan, a former director of the team, passed away on Tuesday July 18 in Vancouver British Columbia following a two year battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife Marge, daughter Kari and two sons Tim and Bob; both sons played for the Spruce Kings in the early 80’s. Mike Maddigan was the first person to support the Prince George Spruce Kings through advertising and sponsorships. He financed and built the first Spruce Kings Show Home Lottery House; the first and last to be built using the assistance of players from the team. He was very happy to learn that the Spruce Kings had changed their logo back to the crown and that the team he was such a big part of would be hosting the National Junior Hockey Championship in May 2007. Funeral services will be held at Holy Trinity Parish in North Vancouver on Friday July 21. In lieu of flowers etc., the family kindly asks for donations to be made to Canuck Place Children’s Hospice in his name. The Prince George Spruce Kings will be recognizing Mike Maddigan and his many years of service and contributions to the team with a moment of silence during the home opening weekend on Saturday September 16. |
