| The Spruce Kings joined Shirley the Kidney and MLA Shirley Bond for the Annual Kidney Walk |
The Prince George Spruce Kings took off their skates Sunday to join members of the community in the Annual Kidney Walk. The Walk was held at the UNBC Northern Sports Centre to raise funds, awareness and support for those affected by kidney disease.
There was a Spruce Kings connection to this year's honouree walk captain - Tracey Eyles. Derek Trainor, a Spruce Kings alumni from 1990-1992, is the spouse of the kidney giver and son-in-law of the recipient. Tracey Eyles unselfishly donated her kidney for her father and reminded those in attendance of the importance of being an organ donor.
Local MLA Shirley Bond also spoke to the crowd showing her appreciation of the Spruce Kings being in attendance for the walk. The Minister of Justice and the Attorney General of British Columbia addressed the players directly relaying the importance of the younger generation to be aware of kidney disease and its affects.
The players walked around the track along with the largest group of walkers in the annual event to date. Participants included the very young in strollers to senior citizens showing their commitment to the slogan of recycling yourself. The event made a positive impact on all the players and there was a sense of pride in being a part of this worthy cause. |
