Clippers hand Spruce Kings loss to conclude Island road swing

The Nanaimo Clippers took advantage of some tired road legs from the Prince George Spruce Kings on Sunday as they skated to a 5-2 victory from the Frank Crane Arena.

Tristan Crozier and former Spruce King Parker Colley lit the lamp against goaltender Evan DeBrouwer jumping out a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.

In the second, Jarod Hovde put the visitors on the board thanks to a Patrick Cozzi that found its way past Nanaimo netminder Taz Burman.

The Clippers re-gained their two-goal advantage with a shorthanded marker from Vincent Millette who finished off a three-way passing play from Sam MacBean and David Melaragni.

The Spruce Kings continued to battle in third when call-up Nick Bochen scored his first BCHL goal on the power play from Ben Brar and Kyle Johnson making it a 3-2 hockey game.

Unfortunately, the wheels came for Prince George late in the third as Millette and Colley iced the game with two more goals.

The Spruce Kings outshot Nanaimo 38-30 overall and are now three points back of the Langley Rivermen for top spot in the Mainland Division.

Another three game road trip is on tap next weekend with stops in Langley, Chilliwack and Surrey.
