Chad Staley Secures NCAA Div I Scholarship

Staley will be heading North for his education and hockey in 2015-16

PRINCE GEORGE, BC – The Prince George Spruce Kings of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) are proud to announce the commitment of Chad Staley to the University of Alaska Fairbanks and the Nanooks men’s hockey team for the 2015-16 season. The University of Alaska Fairbanks is a NCAA Division I school playing out of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA).

Chad Staley is a ’94 born, 5’ 9” pound right handed forward from Kennewick, Washington. The nineteen year old joined the Spruce Kings after attending the team’s Prospects Camp in 2012. This season Staley finished as the team’s leading scorer with 29 goals and 33 assists earning the Most Valuable Player award as well as the CNC Challenge Cup Fan Favourite Player trophy.

“The Spruce Kings organization is very happy for Chad,” said Spruce Kings General Manager, Mike Hawes. “Chad is a tremendous player and a tremendous young man who is very deserving of this scholarship. Chad plays hard for us every night and does everything he can for us to have success.”

Chad Staley is a hard working player that has the ability to carry the puck the length of the ice and create scoring chances for himself and his linemates at will. Defensively sound and offensively gifted, Staley has developed into one of the most underrated players in the BCHL.

“His overall work ethic and positive attitude will go a long way in ensuring his continued success with our team and in Alaska when he moves to the UAF program for the 2015-16 season,” added Hawes.

The Prince George Spruce Kings finished second in the Mainland Division and will now open the playoffs at home against the Coquitlam Express. Game 1 in the best of 7 Mainland Division Semi-Finals will be played Tuesday March 4th in the Prince George Coliseum with puck drop scheduled for 7pm. Game 2 will also be in the Coliseum on Wednesday night before the series shifts to Coquitlam for games three and four on Friday and Saturday.
